Fresh start for spring on Substack
Switching to Substack and English but the content stays the same - always with the aim to inspire you <3
Hej dear reader,
I hope you had a cozy winter. Today I woke up with a cold, the first one in forever and when I after breakfast placed myself in the sofa to rest - a ray of sunshine hit my face. The saying “You don’t know what you got until it’s gone” I would like to prolong with “and then comes back again”. I can cognitively understand I’ve been missing sun and light a lot, but when that ray touched my face I understood it with my whole body. It gave me a tiny sliver of energy, running through my veins now. So here I am! With enough energy to send you my first email on Substack - a platform I hope is better than the old (less missing emails for you and with a chance to build a community with like minded). Only thing is Swedish is not a language here, yet. So we’ll have to stick to English, but let’s see what the future holds!
Besides that, I also incorporated Scandienne, as “The Art of Slow Living” was already taken. Scandienne feels more personal, and is the world I want to create in anyways. I hope you will enjoy building this world with me. It will consist of the same things as before; art, interior, food, fashion and taking things slow. It might be more than once a month, depending on that said energy, and less focus on each month.
But with out further ado, here’s five things I think you will enjoy!
INTERIOR
A new event space was launched this week in the archipelago of Stockholm - Dalarö Skans. An old fortlet has been transformed into a private island filled with everything you need for events like weddings, corporate gatherings et al. The whole island is beautifully renovated but what really caught my eye was the living room area interior. The green hues with cream colored walls, wooden furniture and mix of materials did something for me. Photos from Dalarö Skans instagram:
Sofa from Soho Homes, and a carpet from Nordic Knots.
FASHION
Jewellery can make such a difference to an outfit. Instead of buying new clothes for a season change, maybe look into accessories instead?
Sometimes I wait so long with investing in things I feel a love for at first sight. But this love hadn’t left it’s grip on me, so it was time. I’m talking about the quartz or stone beads I want to wear around my neck all spring and summer, preferably found second hand through auctions or by supporting a small shop. It is getting a bit harder now to nab them at auctions for a good price as they grow in popularity (hence why I maybe shouldn’t wait so long with things I like), but it will be worth it. At one point I also was contemplating making my own, maybe that’s something for you if you feel craftingly inclined. I scored this vanilla yellow one at Kaplans Auktioner, but I would like a black Onyx one as well. Here’s also a lovely fiery one in Agat, one in different shades of beige stone and one in bright red Jaspis.

ART
Liljevalchs spring exhibition is now open for visitors. “Vårsalongen” as it is called in Swedish is known as an exhibition of the people, with known and up and coming artists contributing with pieces. It’s a great possibility to buy affordable art from lesser known names, but you have to be quick. We were there two days after opening, and a lot of the pieces we were eyeing up had already been sold. Here’s some of my favourite pieces:
Linda Zetterman, Notes I & II - silk dyed with indigo
My dear friend Maria Murphy exhibits her corporate cowboys with the best name: “I haven't the bandwidth for this”.
Front / Sofia Lagerkvist & Anna Lindgren Rock pieces - this piece is actually embroidered to look like a rock.
Fanny Ollas, vase meets body, body meets vase (frills). Love the juxtaposition between the hard and the soft materials. Make sure to visit if you’re in town!
BOOK TIP
The Creative Act - a way of being by Rick Rubin.
I stumbled upon a podcast featuring Rick Rubin last year, the legendary American record producer (producing records for music acts such as Beastie Boys, LL cool J, Metallica, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Johnny Cash) and I was instantly intrigued by his view of creativity. Rick sees himself as mainly a vessel of creativity and in this book there are shorts chapters of his musings on the creative way of being. I found it inspiring to read, and as the chapters are not chronological it is a good catalyst for when you feel stuck creatively to pick it up and read a chapter or two.
A NEW OLD CINEMA OPENING HERE IN STOCKHOLM
A tip for the locals: saw that a newly renovated independent cinema had opened during fall in Stockholm, Bio Fågel Blå (Cinema Blue bird) from 1926 in Östermalm. Ingemar Bergman was a regular growing up near by, and this is where he saw films for the first time. He later often visited and talked to the audience after his works had premiered and this is honoured through “Mondays with Bergman”. His films are shown with English subtitles to make the screenings available to foreign tourists and cineastes visiting Bergman's hometown.
The interior is also beautifully restored, with plush chairs in blue soft velvet, and there will be a bar and bistro opening shortly.
